Maybe this and this are useful. There are many hits at yahoo and google if you put in keywords like 'europe', 'asia', 'empire', 'expansion', 'trade' etc. The big players early on were Britain, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal..later on (19th and 20th century) France, Russia and USA joined the party.
