What happens to the losing candidates in the election for President? I appreciate that one or two may resurface, as Nixon did, but from here it always seems as though they are dead from the date of conceding. Do they have nothing useful to give after that; a sort of political mayfly ? Perhaps they have nowhere to go ( our prime ministerial candidates go back to leading the opposition in the House of Commons and may lose several general elections, too).

I imagine that most of them are broke financially and can't afford to resurface. Since most of them are elders, They likely spend the rest of their retirement funds living out the rest of their lives. I think that a lot of candide's consider running for president an good enough accomplishment. "He ran but he didn't win" It's good fodder for the family tree.
