hey! does anyone know why rhode island didnt show up to the constitutional convention in 1787?? Confused

The politicians of Rhode Island did nto want a strong central government. They fear that the constitutional convention and the constitution would create this. This is why they did not send delegates to the convention and initially rejected the constitution.

All states were represented except Rhode Island. Rhode Island was afraid that changing the Articles of Confederation would hurt their lucrative trade.
