hi, i am trying to find a way to set a business up online selling my homemade cushions, throws and quilts. i am at the moment selling on ebay but finding it hard to get people to buy. anyone got any suggestions please?
Crafts per se do not sell very well in most venues unless they are absolutely unique, stunningly beautiful, or themed to attract a specific audience. For the first two types, you should be talking to art galleries before you consider the internet, because that is where you're likely to get the best prices. Once you have a gallery show or two, having an internet site to send people to for more examples is a useful thing.
The third category, themed crafts, are generally items that work with a particular author or artist, or scenic attraction, or... - check out www.dendarii.com for crafts developed from the Lois McMaster Bujold books about Miles Vorkosigan.
You might find some help here, instructions on how to build a cheap and easy website for personal/commercial purposes. Your highest cost will be for getting on the search engines. The hardest part is getting traffic to your site. By all means DO NOT sign up for those deals that promise to post your ad on 1,000 other sites. What will happen is that you will get 1,000 emails you're not interested in - that's the first day. They don't stop coming, either. Good luck! Catty
