MkStfnz - I'm not real clear on your question - what exactly are you trying to find? If you simply mean what is a portal...I'd offer this site http://www.americanexpress.com/homepage/mt_personal.shtml The concept of a portal is for the customer (whether that be an end customer or an employee who is the "customer" of IT) to have simply one place to go to inorder to perform all of the activities they need to.
Many organizations now have portals for their intranet that enables them one view into all of the information they have access to within their company.
