Help! My cat is always tipping water bowls over and spilling them! Even my dogs water bowl! I have thought of weighing it down with aquarium gravel.... She is also infatuated with the toilet bowl and seeing it flush. Could it be she is just infatuated with water? I have no clue! Any opinions?
Skye.

Two of my cats like to watch the toilet flush as well. I think that is just a curiousity thing. Perhaps using a heavy stainless steel water dish would prevent her from tipping the water dish over?

I really don't think that would deter her! She plays on the toilet and walks around the bathtub, she is relentless!! I filled up the dogs water bowl, and she is trying to tip it already!

both of mine do the same thing...I have a pretty heavy water bowl they don't tip over but they do still splash in it....I just place the bowl on a folded up hand towel so it absorbs what they spill....if you are concerened they will spill all their water and not have anything to drink while you are at work or whatever you can get one of those fountian bowel that constanrly recycle the water...nearly impossible to tip and it is fun for them to watch.

I am always here, it is just frustrating to be cleaning up spills all the time, just for her to spill it again! LOL

Get a heavy dish that is wider at the base than at the rim.

I had two medium-sized dogs that always spilled the water bowl. Then, while shopping at a thrift store, I saw a stainless steel bedpan for $10. The problem was solved.

Well, save that bedpan, DG. You never know when you might need it.

Skye, here's what I use for my pets:

No Spill Pet Bowl
I particularly like this one for cats, because of the wide lip at the top. Cats love to play with water, and splashing can be as much of a problem as tipping.

Here are a couple of other ideas:
Non-Tip Stainless Steel Dog Bowl
and here.

Best of luck. Let us know what finally works.

Cats are weird. There’s your answer. ;-)

Some cats like water more than others. My little cat liked it so much she would get in the shower with me. She was forever splashing her water everywhere, but her bowl was too heavy to tip, thankfully. I just got a placemat and kept cleaning up after her. We later discovered she had lots of kidney problems so I do wonder if her water issues had anything to do with that...

Anyway, you could try weighing the bowl down, but she might not drink out of it if there is stuff in there. Mine used to put toys and things in her bowl herself, and then cry because there was stuff in there and she wouldn’t drink.

Some bowls come in trays or stands that keep them steady, that might be an option, or something heavy, or stainless steel like was suggested. She might always splash, but if it’s heavy enough, she can’t tip it.

The splashing I don't mind! Razz I just can't keep her bowl full for o/n when she goes to bed! Always dumped! I found the perfect-sized little box to put the bowl in, so I don't think she can tip it now! We'll see tho! My husband also complains because the toilet seat is wet! Glad it's him and not me! Big Grin She is teaching her little sister some of the crazy ideas she has, too!

Well, there's an easy remedy to the toilet water issue: keep the thing closed! Smile
