I got a call from my mom today and she told me that our 17-yr old cat, Sushi, took off after a dog the other day. Sushi was sitting in the front flower bed and my mom had stopped to talk to a neighbor who was walking their dog. Next thing either of them know, Sushi is after that dog chasing it out of HER yard, howling and yelling all the way.
That old girl has some spunk in her yet!

There was pioneer story told in my family about this wonderful mouser. She had kittens in the barn. One day a bear was seen flying into the bush with the she-cat riding on his head, using teeth and claws on his eyes and ears. Later the cat came back, strutting along as if to say, "Well, I guess HE won't be back for a while." She was carefully examined and no injuries were found. She must have just bailed off at some point, and the bear just kept going.

i have a cat who weighs 30# and he is strong, but he is afraid of my little dogs who are half his weight. as big as he is, you would think he would stand up for himself. what a wimp, but i love him.

Great stories. I love my cats.

Misty, apparently, dogs are not aware of their size. They act as large dogs do.

I wanted to let everyone know that Sushi passed away about two weeks ago. Her old body just suddenly shut down and she had to be put to sleep. Oddly enough, I was in town that weekend for a wedding and got to say goodbye before she had to leave us.

She lived such a strong, colorful life and was such a character and integral part of our family. She will forever be talked about as long as her human brothers, sisters, and parents have breath to do so.

Rain, I am so sorry about the loss of a family member. I know this is so difficult, but have something that might help.

I was confused about my Boxer pup, but learned. I chose a new life and do not regret it. The Boxer is so different than my adored Lab. I felt so overwhelmed by this Boxer pup. I love this dog, but know the fact that I will live to see her die, which is hard. I would guess that tells me to give another young dog a home.

I advise to take another life and treat that dog well. My family was right not advising me of 'same breed'. It really does not matter how much I paid for my Boxer. She could have been sold to awful people that will breed her for cash. It is the most humane thing to do.

Do what you think is right

Aww...sorry about Sushi...always hard to lose a furry family member.

When we had an indoor outdoor cat named Smitty he too would chase anything that came into the yard...next door they had a Great Dane who used to come over and bother the cat...one small swipe and the dog never entered the yard again....The cats we have now are indoor only but they are both total wimps...I babysat my brother's guinea pigs and the cats were terrified...they hid under the bed the first day and avoided the guest bedroom the entire guinea stay.

Rainmaker, I'm very sorry about the passing of your family cat. I'm sure she had a good long happy life, and that you got to say goodbye is very important.
