My little calico is now 7 months old, the bigger she gets, the longer her hair. When she drinks or eats her "bib" is in the dish, she washes herself all the time, but I want her white bib to stay snow white like it is now. Is there anything I can wipe her with that won't hurt her and will keep her white, white??

My calico with snow-white bib, Daisy, kept it snow white all her long eighteen-year life. There must be a digestive enzyme in their saliva which breaks down the food on the fur when they lick.

But if you notice your kitty isn't keeping her white white, all I can think of is perhaps a food dish that has a rim so that she has to stretch her neck out to reach the food, and her throat-hairs lie on the clean rim.

Or dry catfood.

Oh, good, maybe she will keep it snow white. I do feed then dry food so that should help. I just want her to stay pretty.

Hey Kitty,
Get her a kitty-bib!!! Just kidding!!
If you notice there is food on her, simply use a dampened wash cloth with warm water (no soap because you won't be rinsing it out and it could discolor just from the shampoo and kitty will not like the taste; deterring her from cleaning herself).

Because it's right in the front, it's a little more difficult for the kitty to get right at it, but with a little help from you and a washcloth, it should do the trick. Also - after the dampness dries - be sure to comb it through a little to keep the fur loosened up.

Lydia has a long bib (if you've ever seen her/my pic in the yearbook) and she's a few years old - and we've kept it pretty clean this way...

Lydia, yes, that was what I was wondering, about using soap or not and you're right, not a good idea. I did just get back from Petsmart and they have kitty wipes, so I bought a pack, it says on the pack that it's good for loose fur and dander, I will just use a dampened washcloth for now, she is always washing and the other cat is always washing her too. Your Lydia is so pretty!!!

There are special shampoos groomers use that supposedly whiten and brighten light-haired cats and dogs. I found a page about them at petsmart.com. I don't know that I'd recommend them; I would assume only people that enter their pets in shows would want to go that far. I'm sure your cat is beautiful just as she is! Smile

MsSue, thanks for the link, she is pretty, right now her fur is very white, I just have seen a few animals that get yellowed and stained and would hate to see her pretty fur like that. I think if I just wipe her off with a damp towel like Lydia said she should be fine, I do brush her everyday so that will help too. She is also an indoor kitty, that should keep her cleaner too! Thanks for all the help pool friends! Big Grin
