I'm considering ordering one of these cat water fountains. Just wondering if anyone has one, and whether your cats like it.

At Amazon there are product reviews for the fountain. The problems I have been reading on various sites is that cat hair clogs the spinning in the motor. The fountain has to be cleaned weekly. You also have to change the water every few days because it gets slimey.

ARGGHHHH! We bought a cat watering station for over 40 dollars - (apparently, a human thingie) and I tried to sell it at our garage sale for 5 bucks... and had only one "slightedly interested" customer.

What didn't you like about it?

I've got an idea. Sell it to MsSueM. She's looking for one. Big Grin

Clare that is not a bad idea!

Maybe MsSue can cover the cost of shipping and handling plus a minor fee (agreed upon by both) and then MsSue can try it without paying a huge amount for something her cats may not like!

What I didn't like about it, is that it was hugely high maintenance - in that it took so much more work to take it apart and clean it!!!

Thank you for the product reviews. I buy a lot of books from Amazon but have never browsed their other sections. Knowing in advance about the potential for hair clogs and noise if it's not kept filled will help.

I'll buy one at my local PetsMart store and see how it goes...either the kitties will love it or I'll be having a garage sale soon like Tree. Smile

I think I have the same one as tree....I changed the watert everyday, so it had to be unplugged taken apart and filled....it had a filter that needed a monthly change and the darn thing broke after only 9 months....The cats love running water but still liked the kitchen and bath faucets better than the 40 dollar hook up! Yep kitty, sounds like the one! Roll Eyes

AND I agree, the cats love the faucets! I want to get one of those mystic ones that are like waterfalls etc. BUT, I'm having a hard time separating cat and human toys. Wink

Update: So far, so good with the Drinkwell cat water fountain. My cats like it, but they're not as ecstatic about it as I thought they'd be. Oh well... Big Grin

I haven't had to perform a heavy-duty cleaning yet. I wanted to let everyone know that the place I ordered it from -- litterboy.com -- sells specially-made tools just for that purpose!

Thanks, Clare, for directing me to the Amazon site, through which I ordered from litterboy.com. Even with the shipping charge, they offered the lowest price (my local PetsMart store charges $50). You saved me 10 bucks! Smile Cool

I bought one of those Petmate fountains from Petco and it is so noisy! It vibrates like crazy! The booklet says it should be silent, but it is so not. And everything is hooked up right and pushed down all the way... Anyone else have this problem?
