My cat, MrNogoodBoyo, was acting very strangely after our last big windstorm.
He would ask to go out, then ask to come in (nothing new there), then follow me upstairs and pester me. I thought he just wanted to play, so I made a pull-toy from a piece of string and a screw of paper, and that satisfied him temporarily, but then the meowing and pestering would start again.
Finally he attacked my legs and feet with teeth and claws, and then dashed downstairs to the glass door that lets onto the deck. I let him out and he just turned to look at me.
Eureka! I remembered the old Littlest Hobo shows. He wanted me to follow him!.
So I dressed in boots and a windproof coat and he led me down into the deep woods south of the house. He would glance back, ears cocked, to make sure I followed.
But after that, he seemed quite normal. It's as if he thought, "Well, it can't be too bad. At least she knows about it now. So I guess I'm safe."
Am I being overly anthropomorphic?
Naaaa.
Well??? ************************************************************** 01-06-07, 11:24 PM gizmogram Oh now that is too cool! Obviously something in his little world had changed significantly enough that he was disturbed by it...and just HAD to show you Big Grin
Cats are wonderful creatures!
01-07-07, 08:55 PM Tree Oh babthrower! What a wonderful story (with pictures, like a real story book)... I loved it. Yes cats don't like significant change and he wanted to show you what had upset him.
Thanks for sharing! Smile
01-07-07, 09:58 PM babthrower Thanks, you two. His body-language showed a sort of relief after the adventure. I suppose he was thinking, "Well, it can't be too bad, or she'd have been freaking out, or she'd have done something about it. I guess I'm safe. That's the main thing."
Of course, if MrNogood were a dog, he'd have been thinking, "Well, I guess there's nothing to worry about, and my beloved mistress is safe. That's the main thing."
Oh, well. Cool
01-07-07, 10:51 PM Sherasi That was a really cool story.. but what made you think to take a camera?
I always forget to take pictures until later and then.. well, by then its too late. Smile
01-08-07, 12:46 AM babthrower I have been taking photos of windstorm damage for two months now. We have had record winds. (This coming year, when the weather gets good enough to ask this of workmen, we will get some of our biggest trees topped.)
So I keep my digital near the door when I go for walks. I don't always, but usually. I'm glad I did this time!
01-08-07, 08:18 AM Elexina Pretty neat, Babs. Our animals let us know things in many different ways. I watched that “When Animals Talk” show over the weekend and it was pretty interesting. Of course, a lot of the people were kind of nutters and their pets were just being pets, but there were some pretty good stories. My baby cat used to do the same thing yours was doing -except she always ended up leading me to her food bowl. Smile Sometimes one of them would get locked in a closet or something, though, and the other would be freaking out until I followed her to the trapped cat. -What’s that? Timmy’s in the well?
01-09-07, 11:58 AM babthrower Another photo. This branch is 18 feet long and 10 inches in circumference at the breaking point. And we are to get a real granddaddy this afternoon. But the cat is outdoors and is aloof to all my begging and pleading that he come in. I guess he has lost his fear of flying.
01-09-07, 06:04 PM FredPuli Is this a Welsh cat? Big Grin I wondered about the name, 'boyo' once being a Welsh word in English for 'pal' or 'mate' ! 01-09-07, 07:35 PM babthrower Close. He's named after a character in my favorite Irish play. Razz
01-10-07, 10:45 AM MrsS That's a heck of a blowdown! When my Mister Whittens used to make me follow him outdoors, I was never happy about it... He understood me to be the janitorial staff, so it was always something unwholesome that he wanted me to contend with.
Fred and George, the successors to Mister's throne, tell me when their food dish needs attention (Meaning that the bottom of the dish is visible in one or more kibble sized spots) that the box needs cleaning and they "tattle" on each other... each will fetch me when the other is on the counter or plant stands or other "No Cat Zone"... Gotta love the clever little assasins

Wow! I wonder if they can be trained to watch toddlers?
What am I thinking! Train a cat?
