Could someone please tell me how to keep cats from spraying around my house?
My whole house (on the outside) reeks of cat urine.
I have no idea why they have chosen to spray my house. I have no cats of my own. I haven't caught any of them doing it, so I don't know if it is a neighbor's cat or a stray.
Keep in mind that I don't want to do anything that may harm them. I like cats, I just don't want to smell them.
Thanks,
Twinhearts

This article has some useful information, although it is about preventing spraying by your own cats, and you don't know which cat is doing the spraying near your home.

For other cats, it chiefly mentions, "There are a variety of strategies, including water bomb balloons that can be used. Some people find spraying Citronella around the garden keeps cats away but this may also affect your own cat if it is allowed outside."

Here is one other thing that I found. This is an advertisement for a cat repellent. I don't know how effective it is, but it could be worth looking in to.

I don't have much faith in cat repellents. You have a cat struggle for territory in your yard. The will settle this issue. When they do, you probably wont have any problem with them.

Twinhearts, did you have any luck getting the cats to cut the crap (pardon the pun)? Because there are cats outside our place and they've had the run of the yards all winter but now that spring is hear I really don't want them digging and *ahem-ing* all over my yard. I don't want to frighten them away, I just want them to use someone else's backyard as a litter box.
And I DO have cats, but they're inside-only cats. I wouldn't want to spray anything on the outside that would affect the cats on the inside -or my flowers.
Suggestions?

Elexina,
Sorry, but I have had no luck. I have tried some of the cat repellents and have found that they are useless.
I found a site that says ground cayanne pepper will work. I'm going to try that and see if I have any luck.
If that doesn't work, I am going to look into getting some motion detector sprinklers. If a cat comes near the house the motion will be detected and it will turn on the sprinkler. Hopefully, if it comes to this it will work. I don't know of any cats who like being sprayed. The best part about this it that it isn't dangerous or harmful to the cats.
Sorry couldn't have been more helpful.

Well, my cat gets in the shower with me so there are some freak cats out there who like water. But, good luck to you, and let me know if you have success!

I have never found a cure for this and have tried. I think it's just the nature of the beast. I think it's more trouble than it's worth to put up contraptions to get a cat out of your yard.
