I have an adult male tabby that has his third eye lids exposed. Took him to the vet, ran some blood and he came up positive for the first test for toxoplasmosis. Now I have to go run some titer bloodwork tomorrow, to see if Tigers' been exposed to it, or has it.

I read up on it, and its the parasite disease that pregnant women should keep away from cats stool, as it may harm the fetus. Don't worry, I'm fixed. lol!

But I am just curious, I have five cats all together, and they all go outdoors, and indoors, revolving door here at my house Big Grin
But my concern is if he has it, they all have it, or have been exposed to it, right? They share their litter boxes, so I imagine so. I will let you know what the vet says tomorrow. If anyone has experienced this with their cat, please let me know what happened.
Thanks Smile

Good luck and let us know what the vet says.

In the meantime, this site is pretty informative.

Thanks Tree, I really appreciate it, our animals get sick sometimes and it seems....I'm having my share of it, always.

Here's some info I found that is very helpful:

How do cats become infected with Toxoplasma?

I have 5 cats, accumalated from my brother handing them down to me, due to not being able to care for them. They are all outdoor cats, which is a terrible thing for me to have started. I wish I would've thought about before letting them out. There are so many diseases and parasites they contract outside. I have immunized all of them up to date which is a very expensive task in itself, but some things there no immunizations for.

So here is whats going on with my yellow Tiger..his third eyelids are still exposed, he's been put on antibiotics due to the first positive blood draw of toxo, we ran more bloodwork to make sure it toxo. If the test is negative, she wants to send me to a specialist, Opthomologist. I will bulk at this one, because I want to see if it clears up in a few weeks. I have seen this third eye before, and it was on my other silver tabby when he was just not feeling good. He now is having kidney failure, for over a year now, and I'm administering IV fluids under the skin. He is doing well, and is a very good patient, thank god!
Tiger is taking oral drops of clindomycin, and eye drops too. Now this cat is the best! No problem, she even did a glaucoma test(puffs of air) on him, which is hard to do, (no charge) and he didn't even refuse while she kept trying to get a true reading. The final reading was okay.

My concern is if all my cats are going to get this...she said it depends on the results of the blood work, if positive I'll have to run blood on all of them, that's 4 cats! I'm going crazy, with cost of this. Not only have I paid alot out while my poochess was passing away of cancer, now my cats are acting up. I would understand if I neglected them, but if anything I tend to love them too much, always giving them attention, keeping them fed, up to date on shots, baby them. I have already spent over 250 dollars in vet bills for Tiger, and Sparky needs to have his blood drawn to check his kidney values. It's a shame I didn't buy pet insurance, which should be purchased right when they're born.

Oh well, hope for the best for me, I'm going to need it.

PS: Sorry about the editing, I'm working off a laptop, and trying to get used to no mouse.

I too, have 5 cats and can completely comprehend the food and vet bills. My cats are also in and out cats - via the cat door.

Once they get used to going outside, it's not fair to trap them indoors. I think my kids would go crazy if I did that to them. Frown

Just an update, the last titer came thru negative. So, I guess no worries about the other cats contracting it. Tiger has improved from the dedicated administering of the oral antibiotic drops, and eye drops. Phew! Guess I don't have to take him to the eye doctor, as was the next step. That was very weird though. I still say if a cats third eyelid is exposed, its a sign that they are just not feeling well.
