If my cubemate has fleas at her house and flea bites and such that bother her during the day at work, should I be worried about fleas jumping across the cube and coming home with me? ********************************************************** 06-09-06, 02:11 PM DorianGreyed Yes. My advice is to eat garlic regularly. I am serious. For some reason, fleas avoid garlic. I had an infestation years ago, and sprinkling the yard and the dogs with garlic solved the problem.

Fleas do jump and yes, you should be worried if they latched on to you. You can take them home.
06-09-06, 02:48 PM Elexina Well, I haven't started itching so maybe I haven't got any yet... I should string up some garlic cloves around the cube on Monday and really mess with her. Big Grin Thank you both!
06-09-06, 07:49 PM Sherasi Garlic... not only used for Vampire deflection! Wink
06-10-06, 12:54 AM DorianGreyed Sher, I haven't been attacked by a vampire in years, and I walk with a silver-tipped cane in case of werewolves.
Inga: Werewolf Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Werewolf? Igor: There. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What? Igor: There wolf. There castle.
06-10-06, 11:29 PM Tree You guys are insane! I didn't know about the garlic tho! Thanks! I LOVE garlic!
09-17-06, 03:58 PM kissingurami If you do ever have a flea-infested house, you can try this. Mix 2 cups of borax powder and 2 cups of salt. Sprinkle this on your carpet. The fleas will eat the salt and bust. Then vacuum your carpet and throw away the bag.
09-17-06, 06:51 PM MrsS Adding brewer's yeast to your diet and your pets diets will also discourage the nasty little vampires... fleas and ticks are both repelled by it and, as a bonus, it is an excellent source of B vitamins. It's available at most groceries and all health food stores, average adult human needs about a teaspoon 2 to 3 times a week (it's really good sprinkled on popcorn), average cat, about an 8th of a teaspoon in their food daily.
09-17-06, 07:19 PM DorianGreyed I put granulated garlic (a very cheap item) on my dog's food. It seems to work.
09-17-06, 10:25 PM Tree I thought that the "Borax" acted like razor sharp edges to slice and dice (kill) them. What is the purpose of the salt? Never heard of that.
10-21-06, 09:13 AM Xanadu All the remedies mentioned above are said to repel fleas , but I've never known them to clear an infestation as DorianGreyed described. If dogs live in the house, then the ifestation will be there too - more likely the yard fleas ran in the house to avoid the garlic and added to it!)
You can have a house infestation of fleas without knowing about it for some time, especially if your dog's coat is the type that fleas cannot easily be seen in and he/she isn't particularly allergic to them. I've known of badly infested dogs that don't scratch any more than they normally would. If you see flea on your dog, there are probably hundreds of its mates comfortably bedded down in your carpet, soft furnishings etc. So just treating the animal won't get rid of them.
