I thought I would share with you an idea I had for a cat litter box. I was constantly having to clean up litter from my cats kicking it out of the standard size boxes and my cats won't use one with a lid, so I bought a rubbermaid storage container with sides on it that measure about 10 inches high. I used a utility knife and cut out an entrance about 5 inches wide and 6 inches deep. Guess what? I hardly ever have to clean up litter anymore! Woo Hoo!
Hope this helps someone else. Smile

This does work because I have 2 of those such boxes in my home. Except They are much larger, and I set the cat pans down in them.

Smile That is a great idea too! I never thought of that!
If your cats are as messy as mine, then I am sure you know the value of useing these containers!

Just another quick idea, I have a few cats and I found that an old baby wash tub works well too.The sides are high enough they do not make a mess. Wink

Cool, I just now got through cleaning up litter for about the fifth time today. My cats hate the covered box too. I am going to go get one of these, will make life a little easier, also Lucy has a problem with keeping her butt from dangling over the edge, this may help that too.!!! Smile

Smile My Bailey had the same problem. He would constantly stand near the edge and then shoot straight out hitting the wall behind the box. With the higher sides, it doesn't matter what his aim is like.....it just rolls into the kitty litter.....THANK GOODNESS!!!

That is a very good idea! I used to put my cat's litter pan in a big rubbermaid storage container also, and I saw less litter on the floor.

I went to Petco yesturday and saw a litter pan that was covered. The actual pan was 6-8 inches high, and the hood was, well, it was weird. It was the same height as the pan, but instead of a door, or an opening, it had a weird shaped opening. The mouth of the opening was parallel to the floor, so that the cat would have to climb under and up to go to the bathroom. It was really weird, but cool at the same time. I wonder if that will wither increase, or decrease the amount of litter on the floor?
