In fact, there is no breed of cat or dog that can be considered hypoallergenic. The protein Fel d1, that causes the reaction is secreted from sebaceous glands. All skin, human and animal, contains these glands which produce an oily lubricant that keep the skin supple and the hair shiny. All cats produce oils from these glands and all cause problems. The amount of hair that a cat has plays no significant part in its allergenicity. Knowing this, it is possible to be a cat owner with allergies. I know because I am one.
