When ever i pet my cat, quite a lot of fur comes off and when i carry her, my shirt is all covered with fur afterwards. So is it normal for cats to shed all the time? ******************************************************** 05-28-03, 12:44 PM esencia It is quite normal for your pet to shed as the seasons change. I know mine does. Cat hair all over the furniture and my clothes and jeez it is a mess. I did however find this stie that might be of some use. It talks about brushing, combing bathing etc...
05-29-03, 05:54 AM rocketsigntist Cats will also shed even more when they are stressed.
Something to keep handy, near the back door so it can be used as you are leaving the house, are the lint rollers that are sticky. It's in a replaceable roll on a handle that when the first layer is covered with hair, you just peel it off and use the next layer. They're wonderful!!
05-29-03, 10:57 AM Chipmunk Thanks esencia for the useful site and thanks SPCAgal for telling me about the rollers. I'll have to try them.
06-03-03, 09:22 AM Elexina Cats shed all the time. They do it on purpose. My cats run upstairs when I vacuum, pretending to be afraid, but I know darn well they're up there under the bed, loosening up tufts of fur to display all over the freshly vacuumed carpet.
Chipmunk, masking tape will work too if you don't have a roller handy. Just wrap it around your hand (sticky side out, of course). Even Scotch tape will work, but not as well.
06-03-03, 12:11 PM methos As Elexina said, I've found that masking tape works just as well as the rollers.
At least you only have one cat (it sounds like). I had 3 animals growing up... one golden retriever, one black w/ a little white cat, and one black and grey with a little white cat... besides the volume of hair, the different colors guarranteed that the fur would show on absolutely anythign I wore.
06-03-03, 02:50 PM mattlynda cats have a shed on command gene. im sure of it. our cat can sit in my lap for an hour (shes finally getting cuddly!! yay!) and leave only a few hairs, but when our friend who is allergic to cats comes over, she hops right into his lap, and leaves half of herself behind. at least hes remembered to take something before he comes over the last few times hes been over, so her fun isnt as fun anymore.
06-03-03, 02:53 PM kittypal When I was at the vet last week to get the cats their shots I spied a spray bottle of something called Lo-Shed on the shelf, the assistant said it does work to help reduce shedding, but it differed from cat to cat. I didn't buy any, they were out, she said she thought it was available at the major pet supply stores.
LOL @ Methos, I know, I know, I have a black cat and a calico so no color clothing or furniture is safe!!!
06-04-03, 06:54 AM Elexina Lynda, you are exactly right. Plus, those little fleabags only shed dark hair on light stuff and light hair on dark. And, dammitt, get out of the bathtub!
06-05-03, 05:27 AM piggins I've got 1 white cat, 2 all black cats, 1 black and white, and one orange cat.
Can you guess what color my couch is?? Big Grin Big Grin 06-26-03, 04:04 PM thecatsmeow Yes - brushing helps.
07-05-03, 02:33 PM kittypal OMG elixina, I know, why do they have to spend time in the tubs and sink, sheesh!!! Roll Eyes
