Why does a cat sometimes run full speed across a room when nothing visible or audible spooks the cat?

Our cats do that too, especially in the morning and again late at night. The vet said it's the cat crazies, they just feel good!

I love it when my cats do that. I guess it makes me think they are really happy when they do it. Anyway, I guess it's just a cat thing and we will probably never know the reason. wink

Here's an article about the "cat crazies"!

Here's another page that mentions this behavior.

Cats really need their exersise. Especially one that is specificly indoors all of the time. They take running spells to get rid of pent up energy. I have 3 that are strictly indoors. They run up and down the hallway early in the morning and late at night. I also believe in the cat crazies as well. They take moods where they act like nuts. If you have ever seen a dog play with a rag and thrash it about or chase his tail...well that cat crazies are the feline version of that. My Neelix, Kelsey, and Molly can sometimes be a holy terror around here. If it is breakable or can be carried off, I make sure it is tucked out of sight before I go to bed at night. eek smile big grin

angela- I know what you mean, every night there is a crash of some kind, also the toilet paper has to be taken off the holder at night or it will be completely un-rolled by morning and usually chewed up at spit back out too!! roll eyes

That reminds me of an email greeting card site I've been meaning to share with everyone. At actioncat.com, you can choose from so many cute, animated cat cards, including one called "Cat and TP"! I love that site!

Just wanted to thank you MsSueM for sharing that web site with the rest of us cat lovers. It's very cute. I used to have a cat that refused to leave tp alone. We had to put it in the cupboard and tried our best to remember to let guests know in advance.
