I need some cat help. I just found a stray kitten about 5 months ago and nursed her back to health. She is about 11 months old and she gets these spurts of what i call kpms. She meows real loud and low, won't let anything near her butt- won't even sit on it- and refuses to be held. It lasts for a couple days at a time. I looked and I don't see blood(i have all dogs- i know they bleed when in heat). Any ideas? What do you think?

i think she is in heat and you should have her spayed pretty quick before she gets pregnant and adds to the pet over population. please consider it. she will be happier and healthier.

Hi mescrumptious. Welcome to Answerpool. Smile

I think she's in heat. A cat in heat will sound like a crying baby. They go from low meows to high pitched whines. They almost sound like a real person in pain.

I agree with misty. Its time for a vet visit. The Humane Society will sometimes spay or neuter your pet at a reduced cost.

Thank you both sooooo much. I'm a huge animal activist, so I am definitly going to have her spayed asap. She is the only cat in my house though, so I don't have to worry about her getting pregnant. I think I should wait until shis not in heat to get it done though. Thanks again!

I wasn't sure if you should wait until she was out of heat before taking her in to the vet. I did find a question from Purina One similar to yours.

quote:
Our kitten is just turning 6 months and she has recently started crying (sometimes almost howling) a lot and walks with her rear part in the air (as if in pain). Is there something wrong? Do you think she is about to get periods like humans? What would you recommend?

Female cats come into their first heat cycle between 6-9 months of age. When they do come into heat they will cry loudly, roll around on the floor and rub against people as they signal that they are ready to mate. If let outside they may find a mate and then become pregnant. When she is in heat she should be kept indoors to prevent unwanted litters of kittens. Once her heat cycle is over please contact your veterinarian and make arrangements to have her spayed.

Click here for more tips from Purina One on spaying and general cat care. It also includes some tips for when your kitty comes home. You are correct to wait until she is out of heat. Good thinking. Smile

Complications seldom occur when having a cat spayed, but the complications can be greater when done when they ARE in heat. That, couple with the fact that most vets will charge more for spaying during a heat cycle says you should wait until the heat is over.

Just keep her inside and away from any male cats until she's done - when she'll return to a "normal" state. And yes, get her spayed as soon as possible after that.

Good luck, it sounds like you care about her Smile
