I suspect our alpha-male siames cat (Zak) is bullying our two other cats. The other morning, my wife went out to work but I had a day off and was lay in bed dosing (lucky me!). Soon after the front door closed, our black cat (Cain) was charging up stairs, being chased by Zak, when he caught him he gripped him with claws and teeth and Cain really screamed out loud, louder than I've ever heard him before. When Zak realised I was home he stopped. He does attack the others when we're there, but never makes them scream THAT loud. I often find cuts and grazes on Cain and Thai, our female siamese (Zak's sister). Do you think he bullies them whenever we're out? If so, how do we stop it? Do you think we should try to stop it?

Blam, I would love to know if it can be stopped, I have the same problem here, when I'm home our cat Jerry is all lovey to his little sister Lucy, he sleeps with her and cleans her, but if he thinks he's alone he mounts her and bites her neck, he is neutered so it can't be sexual. When I'm at home and it happens I just go and remove him and give him a little scold.

Yes, you should definitely try to stop it. It's one thing when you know they are playing, but the fact that one of them ends up with scratches and bite marks and also screams out because it's painful, it's another story. That being said...the tough part is figuring out what will stop him from doing that.

Do you allow him to play rough and attack when you are home? (I know you said that it's not so bad when you're home). You should start with discouraging it when you are home - when Zak starts to do that, spray him with a water bottle so that he stops...or make a loud noise so he gets startled and runs off. If he starts to associate the water and/or the noise with his behavior, he might stop ("might" being the operative word...it doesn't always work).

The other thing that you may want to consider is trying to separate him from the others when you are not home. Put him in a separate room (so he knows that it's HIM that's not allowed out with the others). If you try that when you're not home, coupled with the water/noise when you are home, he might figure out that it's not worth it.

Outside of that, I really don't know what to offer - there are some "anti-aggressive" drugs out there, but I'm not a fan of a drugged cat...

Thanks for your replies. We usually do nothing about him attacking them when we are present, I just thought, if he does it when we're not home, why stop him now? And like I said, it's not too bad when we're there. It's not all the time either, every night they all curl up together and snuggle up, wash each other and go to sleep, but Siamese are renowned for there strength and aggression toward other cats. They are like the Bull Terriers of the cat world! When we first got Cain, the Oriental Black, Zak was the most tolerant of this new kitten, Thai was the nasty one with him! I don't know what that's all about!! When Zak is not in attack mode, the two males are the closest, poor Thai is sometimes left out! I know they don't think like us, but it's hard to see it that way sometimes. They have all been neutred by the way.
