Thanks for taking a look at this. I have an 8 year old domestic house cat. About a month an a half ago her tail was caught in a bathroom door. At the time it looked like just a SMALL piece of skin from the very tip of her tail was torn off when the fur was pulled off, however now, since it's healed, it's receded to expose about an inch of cartlidge at the end of her tail. No skin surrounds this area at all.

Even the day the injury happened within an hour she was playing and purring her fuzzy face off. Her eating habits have not changed, nor have her bathroom habits. She's exactly the same cat as before, only now her tail ends and an inch of cartlidge begins.

Will this just eventually fall off if there is no blood supply to this area of the tail or should I take her to a vet to have it cut off. OR... if she's just fine should I leave her be?

Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks so much!!

Hi Chassy,
It's good to see someone else posting from Ontario! Welcome to AnswerPool.

It sounds like your cat came through the ordeal relatively unscathed, but a visit to the vet would be a good idea, especially if cartilage is exposed.
Have a look at this site too:

Thanks for the link. I think from the sounds of that site that she's doing very well. I will get her to the vet, but I just assumed since she didn't even miss a beat in being her usual self, even during the incident, that I'd take her when she's due for her rabies vaccine. That's only about another month away. If anything with her changes though quickly, I'd be sure to get her in right away.

Thanks so much again for that link! I never would have found that on my own.
