smile My cat has never been outside, but is there a way she can get fleas? I brush her and have not noticed anything, but she does itch her ears alot. Maybe earmites?

Earmites, possibly. It's unlikely, but a flea could hop onto your clothing and ride into your house with you, thus getting to kitty. In some parts of the U.S., fleas are all over the grass around people's houses. I don't know why.

Another possibility is dry skin. It depends on your climate. There ARE lotions for kitties with dry skin -- though they haven't stopped my kitty's dandruff/dander problem.

Anyhow, kitty should be getting yearly checkups at the vet (and appropriate vaccinations), so ask the doc.

Yes, your cat could get fleas. I have four cats which live soley indoors, in our fourth floor flat. Everytime we go to the vets with one of them, they all end up having fleas. Also sometimes when friends visit who have outdoor cats, they drag fleas in with them (one or two fleas are enough, once they start breding you can end up with hundreds in a week!).

I think it depends on the type of environment. I live in an area where there are a lot more fleas than average. My cat has always been indoor and when I lived in a first floor apartment she always had fleas. I think they would come in through the screen door. I would de-flea her and spray the entire apartment regularly and they would always come back. After I moved to a third floor apartment the flea problem went away. I haven't seen a flea in seven years on this cat.
