As you can see by the 3:30 posting, I'm not able to go to sleep. It sorta feels like when you go to give blood, they make you sqeeze that ball, my whole hand would go limp like I didn't remember how to grip a ball and sweeze.

Now I read in a magazine that carpal tunnel starts on the underside of your hand and the thump and pointer finger are effected. Mine is on the top of my hand and spreads down through the fingers.

What might that be?

Is there any tingling in your fingertips? I've known 3 people who had the same weakness but with tingling and it was due to the compression of the Ulnar nerve which runs from the shoulder to the hand. The compression happens at the elbow and can be corrected by re-routing the ulnar nerve through surgery. A neurologist can easily diagnose this through using a nerve conduction test and EMG. These tests are also used to diagnose Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I'm sorry you're having difficulties and know how distressing it can be when you don't know why it's happening or what you can do.

I also had carpal tunnel-like symptoms, but it was on the TOP of my wrist rather than the underside. Turned out to be tendonitis.

It would definitely be a good idea to get seen for it. Good Luck and let us know!

Thanks for the responses. I went to my doctor because I couldn't get in touch with the surgeon. They checked my reflexes and drew some blood to do some various tests. Confused

Basically I still don't know what happened. I'm not so much feeling it now. It was really weird!

On the good side I got some Ambien and was asleep in no time the next night! Big Grin

kim,
I agree with the answers above, it could be either carpal tunnel or tendonitis, even something else. I just had carpal tunnel surgery two weeks ago, and am doing well with it, my symptoms were numbness in my right hand at night when sleeping, and tingling when I was awake. I now have neither. They took the stitches out this past Monday, and I have two more weeks of light duty then back to my regular job. Please take whatever action is necessary if they diagnose you with any of these above conditions.

I concur with vansrme. I had this operation just last year and have never regretted it. I use to wake up in the middle of the night with my hand feeling swollen and numb and yes, it would tingle all day. Only problem now is that I have started to experience the same symptoms in my other hand. Will probably have to repeat everything again.
