For all of my life, I've had to clear my throat frequently because of the feeling of phlegm in the back of my throat. At times, it is almost an unending situation. I do so often, I don't even notice it much of the time now. My nose also gets very "full" of mucous that becomes solid and dry requiring frequent cleansing.

My mother has always also appeared to have to clear her throat, and, since it is taboo to "mess around" with ones nose, she has surreptitiously cleaned her nose out also.

I have no respiratory distress, no shortness of breath, we've always had pets, but when my husband and I got our own place, we've not had pets for the last 8 years, and I still have the problem.

It is an annoying and embarrassing problem to have and sometimes it just feels as though I've got stuff stuck in the back of my throat. Dr Sid or any nurses, can you help?

This seems such a minor thing, but it really gets old, you know what I mean? mad

I have the same problem, and a doctor once suggested to me that I have unusually thick mucous. Also, my nasal passages are very narrow, allowing things to back up. Rhinoplasty may be the only answer. I wasn't offered anything to thin mucous. If you are, demgams, please let me know what it is!

If that is the case of thick mucous you could try a few things here. Such as lots of fluids will help thin it out and possibly staying away from milk products as they tend to thicken secreations. Sam

the non-scientific term is "post-nasal drip." There can be a lot of causes.
