i went rollerblading a few weeks ago and didn´t have an easy time with it, since i was going over a bridge and paniked when i realized i had no way to stop myself, so i took the blow and hugged the light post to stop me. needless to say that probably wasn´t the best thing to do.
since the next day i have had pain in my left knee and although it has subsided a lot, it is still very painful when i squat down all the way or when i stand with my knee locked straight, sometimes when i sit for a long time. and when i sit on the couch with my legs bent to my side. otherwise it´s perfectly as stong as the other. can someone tell me why it hurts? the doctor only gave me some pills for the inflammation, i wonder if it is still inflammed...

no one can give you a meaningful answer without being able to examine the knee. It might be time to check back with your doctor. However, if it's not clicking or locking or loose in any way, it's not very likely that there's something seriously wrong.

from the sounds of what you say, it's possible that you may have just stretched or sprained some of the surrounding ligaments or tendons. If the pain doesn't subside in about 1 week, then you should have additional tests for cartilidge or ligament damage...it's unlikely that you did any significant damage or you would have difficulty walking with snapping or pulling and it certainly wouldn't feel as strong as the other one.

In my opinion, it sounds like you did something much, much worse than what you say that you did. I think that it sounds like you sprained your nee. I think that you should either goto the emergency room or goto to your doctor ASAP.

More than likely, if you are walking around without much pain, there is probably nothing else a doctor can do to help. An anti-inflammatory, like ibuprophen, should help some. Mainly, it will just take time to heal.

thanks lydia, that´s very kind of you to ask.
it´s a little better, thankfully. i have had a little success in simply tensing my muscles while standing, it seems to have lessened the pain somewhat. i probably just need to strengthen it a bit. i will get to the pharmacy in the next day or so and get some ibuprofen for the inflammation.
i know it sounds rather silly, but going to the doctor means explaining myself in a foreign language and it feels a little dumb to explain what i can´t even really explain to myself in English, especially when i already know that there is most likely nothing she can even do for it.
by the way, i have no other problems with it other than the stiffness when it´s bent all the way and not so much when i stand with my knee locked. there is no popping or any of the other things mentioned.

Hi Hassia! I've made the experience that it can hurt for weeks or even months when I've fallen on a knee without anything apparent being wrong. It always went away without any intervention, but I agree that it sucks! I personally loathe doctors, which is why I never consulted one for these things. But that's not a good idea, I know! If it won't get any better you might want to see another doctor. Was the one you've seen for this a general doctor or a specialist? If it was the former you may want to consult a specialist (Orthopäde), as they have more experience and more methods for examining these things. Maybe it's something with the meniscus or so???
If memory serves me right you've written something in German to me before, and I thought it was excellent (and I think you even knew our grammar better than I did!)! If you like you can practice explaining it in German to me, and I'll let you know whether it's understandable. And if all else fails: doctors are normally educated enough to understand English here. Just don't let this language issue prevent you from going to a doctor if you'd go at home!
