I broke my shoulder on April 29. I have been in physical therapy three times a week since about two or three weeks after it was broke. No surgery was required. I went back to my bone doctor the other day and he told me that if i don't get my arm working better in the next six weeks hes going to put me in the hospital and put me to sleep and rotate it himself. Sooo the therapist started more excecise on my arm more intense ones yesterday now my arm is hurting so bad its even hard to type..and i can't seem to use it as well as before because of the pain. The doctor didn't xray it again now im wondering what is going on? Any ideas? And does anyone know much about what all they do when they put you in to rotate it? I bet that is painful...

Not knowing the extent of the damage I can only guess that your doctor might be talking about doing surgery to repair the rotator cuff. It probably got torn when you broke your shoulder and the surgery would repair the damage and make sure it was properly attached to your humerus. It can be done as outpatient and quite possibly can be done arthoscpically depending on the degree of the damage.

Of course he could be talking about something entirely different but when a doctor starts talking about rotating a shoulder he is referring to the muscles used for internal rotation.

It wouldn't be repairing the rotator cuff, which is an entirely different kettle of fish. Sometimes it's necessary to manipulate a joint under anesthesia, when that joint has become relatively frozen; this can occur after surgery, or after an injury, etc, when scar tissue builds up and restricts motion. In those cases, when it becomes impossible to restore range of motion because of pain and physical limitation, going under anesthesia allows putting the joint through a broader range of motion without pain.
