I posted earier about my cousins newborn baby that was 5 weeks premature and had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. He has now been diagnosed with Trisomy 13. I have never heard of this. My sister said he will be severely retarded, and will not live beyond childhood. She felt he would likely have heart problems too. Any info on this??? He was born yesterday. Thanks

Sandy there are resources out there for parents of disabled children. In fact, there is an astronomical level of support (it is only as they become adults that the support seriously dwlindles). She should speak to the hospital Social Services people. They can tie her in to getting SSI for disabilities, and all the community based support programs out there. I am speaking from experience here, there really is great help. MHMR, CSIU, SSI are a few names of organizations that can help. Talk to her about it. There are also a ton of support groups for parents of disabled children. They don't have to struggle alone with this.

Thanks evryone for your support. I went and saw Baby Ryan yesterday. He is beautiful!! I will never in my life, forget the soft feel of his skin. The doctors don't think he will live much more than a month, but my cousin is handling it very well. She is just cherishing each day that she has with him.

Thanks Sam. Beatutiful baby Ryan is holding his own, but it is day by day. Please keep my cousin Traci in your prayes as she deals with this. Also the baby's father whose name is Keith.

I would like to thank everybody that has been praying for Baby Ryan and our family. Ryan peacefully passed away in the arms of his parents at 11:30 PM on April 13th. We feel very blessed for the three weeks that we had him.
