For the last going on 17 days now, I have been really sick.

I am fine at home because I'm laying down all the time. But when I get out and start moving around, that is when I start getting really bad.

See, I started feeling sick on Wednesday the 15th of March. I had a bad cough, sneezing, stuffy nose and a soar throat. Paul immediatly put me on Cold & sinus mediacation, theraflu & oj.

Friday(thurs. night/Fri. morning) I went back to work. As soon as I started moving around, I got severe cold sweats(as in when I took my cooks hat off, my hair was soaked) & nasuea.(along w/ the symptoms mentioned ealier) I ended up going home 4 hours early that day.

The next 2 nights I CIS (called in sick). I went to work Monday and my Supervisor gave me the next night off to rest. Then it was my weekend. I worked Friday feeling like crap and one of the dayshift supervisors made me stay over 2 hours that dayt o meet the new director.

Anyway, went to the Urgent care cent3er in town and was diagnosed with "Asthmatic Broncitis." I was purt on codine and 2 different inhalers.\

I seem to be getting worse. I went to work last night and as soon as I started moving around, I started dying (or I wanted to at least) I started cold swetting realyl bad and dry heaving. I ended up calling my supervisor at home at 2 in the morninig and he told me to go home.

This has been 17 days now! I hate the cold sweats, nasuea and dry heaving. I have not had a fever and my cough is gone. And on Tues. Wed. & Thurs. of this week, I got a bloody nose. (severe headache then the bloody nose, as have all my bloody noses have been the last couple months.) AND, I am really worried because since Feb.14th, I have lost 40lbs.! The Dr. seemed the least bit concerned because I lost it due to my sickness and having a loss of appitite. 40lbs. is a lot in that short amount of time.

A couple of Paul's supervisors think that I could be pregnant. Even though I had my period this month, they say you can still be pregnant. My mom says that sometimes you lose weight first.

I don't know. I am starting to get really scared. I can't go on living like this. Frown Frown

First of all, get a pregnancy test.

Like.. NOW!!

You may not be, but it is best to be sure if there is a chance.

Second, get a second opinion. If the meds are not working and your doctor won't cooperate with more testing, get another opinion.

Let us know what the test results were, and we can go on from there.

Until then, start drinking gatoraid or other similar drinks with electrolytes for dehydration prevention.

I lost a lot of weight during my pregnancy initially.

It really sounds like the doc is right about asthmatic bronchitis. The symptoms sure sound right. For the last 3 weeks I've had acute bronchitis and my symptoms were almost exactly as yours. I went to the doctor twice and got antibiotics, cough pills, and 2 inhalers. Just like you, I can only move around for a few minutes and I have to sit or lay down.

Asthmatic bronchitis is really a serious condition and can lead to pneumonia. Take care of yourself. I think you still need a second opinion though.

I suddenly became allergic to red alder about five years ago. When my doc diagnosed it, I told him I'd never been allergic before. He said people can get allergies (for example those that cause asthma) at any age.

He gave me a breathing test and found out that indeed I had constricted 'tubes'. I got a puffer from him and no more bronchitis. A quick magic fix. I hardly ever need to use it, except in Red Alder season in springtime.

Just goes to show that sometimes something simple can make a big difference. So see a doctor that will listen to you.

I agree with the above except that I would ask for some bloodwork just to rule out any sort of blood disorder. The nosebleeds and weight loss are some red flags there.

At least if they do a complete blood count they can see if you have an infection or something more serious.

Clearly, there's more going on than just spastic bronchitis (which can be a secondary effect of other illness). Whereas it sounds sort of viral at the outset, at this point I'd be concerned about pneumonia; or things going on in the belly, such as inflammatory bowel disease or even a ruptured appendix which can simmer and fester in some cases. It's time for a more thorough exam than you'd get in an urgent care center.

Well, I'll type as best I can but I am not feeling top notch right now. Sorry Frown

First off, I am not pregnant. The test proved negative.

I have been diagnosed with 2 things.

A fatty liver which is a build up of fat inthe liver cells. Not usually serious but in some occassions may be associated with or may lead to infalmation of the liver. It can cause scarring and extensive scarring can cause cirrhosis. I guess it can also cause hardning of the liver as well. I had blood work done yesterday to check for diabetes because fatty liver can cause that. And it runs in my family.

I also have thyroid. She said that my thyroid is producing to much hormones. I have to go to a thyroid/diabetes specialist to see if he can figure out why it is doing that and why it is running a million miles a minute. (so the doctor put it.) She warned me that the thyroid could be cancerous and potentially life threatning. They will be testing for cancer as well.

What's scary is the more a doc starts looking for things the more he finds something wrong that may not even have been related to your initial symptoms!

Sounds like you have been throught the ringer. I will keep you in my thoughts and pray that you will be feeling much better very soon!

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply.

I wento a specialist on Monday. He diagnosed me with Graves Disease.
According to the medical paper the Dr. gave me, The leading cause of hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease represents a basic defect in the immune system, causing production of immunoglobulins (antibodies) which stimulate and attack the thyroid gland, causing growth of the gland and overproduction of thyroid hormone. Similar antibodies may also attack the tissues in the eye muscles and in the pretibial skin (the skin on the front of the lower leg).

He prescibed me some new medication because he said the other Dr. gave me the wriong stuff.

See, I also have a fatty liver. It contains an excessive amount of fat and the normal healthy liver tissue is partly replaced with areas of unhealthy fats. In such a liver, the liver cells and the spaces in the liver are filled with fat so the liver becomes slightly enlarged and heavier. The liver has a yellow greasy appearance. There may be discomfort over the liver, which is situated in the right upper abdominal area. There may be gallstones composed of cholesterol and bile salts. It is often possible to see the excess fat in the liver in an ultrasound scan of the liver. There may also be elevation of the liver enzymes.
www.liverdoctor.com

He said that when the doctor prescibed the medication she did, it was doing me more harm than good. See, fatty liver can cause different things. Diabetes (which I still need to get tested for), it can harden your liver and cause Sarcosis. The medication she prescribed he said would increase the chances of one of those or even all 3 and also causes infertility.

The new medication, I take 12 pills a day, is making me feel a little better each day. Unfortunatly, I have to take 2-3 weeks off (starting this last Mon.)

They ran some more tests (they took 6 tubes of blood!) and I have to go in for even more! sheesh! Eek

Anyway, I just want to get better so I can go back to work. I haven't been to work since March 31st, and I want to go back! (no...I don't think it's the medication talking here LOL)

Well, good news is I don't have Diabetes. My liver enzymes are back to normal so no more fatty liver and I can have Dairy again! Smile

Doctors are still trying to figure out why my hyperactive thyroid is doing what it is. But in the next couple of months I will have to have either a treatment of RadioActive Iodione or surgery to get rid of the thyroid.

Docotr has me off work until at least May17th. Which sucks because that's a couple of weeks later than I wanted to go back.

However, that also means that it's more than 30 days so I qualify for short term disability. (I've already used up all of my PTO)

Of course I'm in good spirits. If I'm not, it only makes me worse! You should've heard me on Thursday when I left the doctor after he told me I was out until at least May17th. I was swearing up a storm!! LOL
