I found a website that discusses this illness. it IS geared for kids, but it is very informative. http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/mono.htmlquote: If you get mono, you can infect other people for up to 6 months afterward. At first, people usually don't feel sick after getting infected with the EBV virus. So someone could have mono - and be spreading it - and not even know it. That's why it's important not to share things like forks, straws, or lip gloss.

Sarah... It's great that you found the source for why you've been feeling down and tired. Mono is a tough thing to go through but once you are done with it, you'll feel normal again and it is not something you need to be embarrassed about or feel that you need to disclose to boyfriends. It isn't serious and a lot of people get it.
I had it in high school and it was horrible but then life went back to normal and I've never thought about it again.
