Has anyone any ideas for easing nasty coughs. I know that hot honey and lemon is soothing and can help. At the moment my son is in Basic Training and getting very little sleep, 4-5 hours at best. He has a really nasty cough, mouth ulcers etc and I'm sure the lack of sleep and sheer exhaustion is having a lot to do with it. I have today sent honey and lemon juice (to add to hot water) at his request but wonder if anyone can think of anything else other than sweetened lozenges and medicines that might help. I suspect that nights become even more difficult if it doesn't clear soon, for his room mates as well as him. Hope someone might know of what else can be tried. Many thanks.

Hi, I wonder if your son has developed allergies. Allergies can cause the airway to constrict and coughing becomes as a need to get air in. He should go see the bases doctor, those mouth sorse are a sign that something is going on in his body as does the coughing. Sever coughing can weaken the sides of his throat and making it bleed even.. this happened to me. It's not uncommon that men and women develope allergies suddenly to the invironment around them.

I agree if this cough keeps up he ought to go get it checked out by a doctor. Sometime it can be related to other things. If it continues all the home methods you use could just be treating the symptoms and not the cause.
