My allergies are awful. I have used so many meds that don't work. Now im on allegra which is the 24 hour one and it works but drys me up so bad so my doctor also put me on a steriod nasal inhaler called nasonex. I have used flonase with no luck. Anyhow anyone got any suggestions on anything else to try so I don't get so dried up. Now im wheezing so don't know if an asthma attack is coming on yet or what..I hate allgeries Mad

If you are wheezing then your bronchial tubules are constricting. I have asthma and I am treated for it on a preventative basis. I use the Flovent inhaler twice a day and have an Albuterol inhaler for emergency situations. But daily use of Flovent prevents me from having an attack. I also use Clarinex (relatively new drug) for allergies. It is a non-drowsiness anti-histamine. I have not noticed any drying out at all.

Of course, nothing will ever top Seldane antihistamine for stopping my sneezing attacks. But unfortunately the FDA took it off the market many years ago. Allegra is supposed to breakdown into the same chemicals once it is in the body but it's just not as good as Seldane was.

advair for prevention is #1 in my book, with Singulair a close second. My asthma has never been this well controlled.

I have never had any drying issues with Allegra, and I take it each day. Have you tried a simple saline nasal spray?

Actually a humidifier is the worse thing for people who have asthma. Putting moisture in the air makes it harder for us to breath. That's why doctor's suggest that asthma sufferers who have it really bad move to an area with a dryer climate.

My son takes Claritin for his allergies. I can't remember what he took before that, but I do know that it would dry out his nose. His doctor had me put a small amount of vaseline an a
q-tip and rub it inside his nose. It really helped him.

You might want to try a saline nasal spray which is fairly cheap--$2-$4 a bottle, and can be used as needed. There is a brand called Ocean Spray, but there are generic versions as well, which is what I buy.
