My dad was in a really bad motorcycle accident 6 months ago and was hurt pretty severely. Most of the other injuries--broken ribs, punctured lung--have healed, but they just recently found that he also broke a bone in his inner ear (they only recently found it because they thought the nausea and dizziness from it was from the painkillers).
Anyway, he's been going to physical therapy, and its not doing any good. He can't bend over, he can't lay down flat, and he gets dizzy doing simple thing like turning his head. The doctor told him that there is a surgery to repair the damage, but the doctor doesn't want to do it. The physical therapist told him that he'll "just have to live with it". This is limiting his movement so much I don't think he CAN live with it--he can barely move.
I'm trying to find more information on this problem to give him so he can seek out a better second opinion. Being informed should help him evaluate the advice he gets. But when I search it I keep only getting middle ear infections.
Does anyone know anything about this problem or where I can get information? Thanks so much.

I know your post was several years ago but did your father recover from the broken inner ear? What treatments did he get? I broke my innder ear in 1991. I have recently experienced extreme diseness and my doctor assumes it is from the old injury (floating particles). He suggest phyical therapy but I don't see how that can help.
