A family member is taking "4 Leuprolide acetate suspension" ($2600 a shot) given for prostate cancer.
Does anyone know (in laymen's terms) what ingredients this shot actually contains? His doctor keeps sidestepping this question by just saying what it's for.

It is a hormone analog (meaning it's chemically similar to a particular hormone) which suppresses release of the hormone that causes testosterone to be released. In other words, it lowers testosterone, which slows growth of prostate cancer. click here for more info. There are many sites available if you type "leuprolide acetate" into your favorite search engine.

I still can't find any sites that give the actual ingredients in the shot.
For example, the hormone therapy drug "Premarin" is made with pregnant mare urine. This is the type of information I'm looking for. I still need to know, what is Leuprolide made with?
I'm well aware that the pharmaceutical companies and most doctors do not want this information known. Smart people want to know what exactly is being injected into their bodies so they can make an educated decision.
And isn't acetate used in paint solvents?
The suspension part I've figured out by looking at a dictionary. "To come to a stop, or cease temporarily."

acetate means it has a certain molecule as part of it; a huge number of drugs have "acetate" as part of their name and composition. It makes it soluable. Suspension is simply a type of mixture, where a chemical is "suspended" in some sort of carrier liquid to make it usable. It is as opposed to a solution, in which something is dissolved. Leuprolide is a chemical. You won't find what's "in" it because it is leuprolide. It's like asking what's "in" salt (sodium chloride). If you want the exact chemical formula for leuprolide you might be able to find it, but what will it tell you unless you are a molecular chemist? The point is what it does, how it acts, which has been answered.
