Anyone ever heard of em. Guess my daughter and her whole cheer team got em from the lake. Some kind of parasite living in sea weed here in Michigan. If so, how do I solve the problem?
Chiggers are a type of mite which in larval form attack humans. usually by the time you note that they are there (itching, rash) they have already fell off and moved on to the next stage of their development.
Therefore anything you attempt to use to kill them will be ineffectual since they are no longer there.
Treat the Symptoms and the rash.
Antihistamines. The condition will go away on its own the treatments are to treat the bites which cause a histamine reaction (allergy) which causes itching and pustules to form (little white bumps full of clear liquid).
antibiotic cream to prevent infection from the bites and of course from itching.
keep the area clean with soup and water. Prognosis is about 7 days before it clears up.
If it persists for more than 4 days (with severe itching) or an infection develops consult a physician.
