This is the strangest thing. There is something...weird going on with my foot.
Every day at random intervals...I feel warmth on the bottom of my foot. It's a rough circle I would say, on the padded part of the sole near my small toes, and a small portion of the arch. It only happens with my right foot. The feeling of heat is so sudden and intense (but not uncomfortable) that I notice it no matter what I happen to be doing.
It only happens a moment. It's about the temp of a hot bath I would say. It gets warm very quickly and then fades just as quickly.
For a the first week I kept trying to figure out what I was putting my foot on. I checked under my desk, in my shoes, everywhere. When I realized that it happened no matter where I was, or what I was doing, I realized that the sensation of warmth could only be coming from my foot itself.
The area of skin which experiences the feeling looks normal. I've not had an extreme change of diet. I've not been sleeping well...but I haven't been sleeping well for years.
This is so odd!
What could be causing something like this? Should I be concerned?
I would go to a doctor....but if there are any good doctors in this area, I haven't found them. Mostly they just throw pills at you and tell you to come back if it doesn't get better. Well...I'm not overly fond of pills, and I've been prescribed so many things that I didn't need, or actually made me sick, that I'm very leery of starting something new.
Any suggestions?

sometimes irritated nerves can cause such sensations. It's possible there's a pressure point, perhaps related to the shoes you wear. You could consider some time of arch pad. It could also possible be an early sign of something called Morton's neuroma. The treatment for that would also be attempting proper padding/support -- surgery is done if it causes severe enough symptoms. So it seems reasonable to try support first.

A year and a half ago (April Fool's night, to be exact!) when I tried to go to sleep, I literally itched and twitched all night! The next day, I realized that anywhere I sat felt as if someone had already warmed up the right side of the chair. By the day after that, I realized the skin on the right side of my body, from mid-chest to my toes, was numb! I could feel touching, I guess from pressure; and when I scratched my skin, it felt like I was scratching through clothing. But I couldn't feel temperatures - my daughter held an ice cube to my side and I couldn't feel it! The "dividing line" was straight down the center of my body. Sometimes the tops of my feet would feel hot, like in hot water. And though I couldn't feel cold temperatures, any water felt very warm. For a few weeks my leg became weak, too. My doctor x-rayed my neck for a pinched nerve and did an MRI, but nothing showed up. Eventually, I regained feeling in my skin, but I occasionally still have "hot spots" on the top of my foot. And I have one spot above my right ankle that if I touch, I feel it on the inner side of my leg! Really weird! But apparently not fatal!
