Hi i know so many of you know me even though ive not been around nearly as much lately. Anyhow, i had some medical problems thursday night and went to the emergency room and they confirmed there well they said they think i had a TIA. I have alot of fibroids and my blood count was down to 6.4 or somthing close to that..This and my weight they told me is the reason i had that TIA. Anyhow , it is kinda scary but they have to put you on blood thinners for a TIA then your already having some female problems ...so It is scary right? What do i do now? IF anyone and i do know there is good RNS on here can help and update me on all of this i would appreciate it alot..What made me go in to the hospital is i gues my speech got a bit slurry and my right leg not my arm just my leg went numb for maybe fifteen minutes then stopped and all was ok again . They did a CT on me and had to give me potassium tablets even though ive not been sick or do not take water pills. Anyhow, another question is this why did i sleep so much after that happend i mean hours i slept and am sill very tired? OK ill quit as you can see im kinda upset and i know my family doent want me to worry anymore than i already am, so they just keep saying you will be ok sam but i really need to know from people who are not related what all you think ok? Honest only...oh and btw my blood pressure was never high in fact i have problems withjust the opposite and when i was there it was only i think 94/38 and they did give me some shots in my tummy to help the blood not clot.

I spoke with an RN, who questions what you report, as do you, but says the following. It sounds as though you had a blood clot in your leg, which may be what made your leg numb. Also, are you sure that the 6.4 pertains to what you think, because you were not given any blood?
Now, to me, it sounds as though you were so scared that you may not have gotten all of your facts and causalities correct. Go over again what happened with the doctors involved or with some other doctors. You need to be under the care of a doctor who can help you to monitor your seeming tendency to get blood clots in your legs, and, as many of us, you should try to lose weight and get enough exercise. On your own, you should know about such safeguards as support hose and not crossing your legs or sitting too long. Be greatful that your health has not progressed to that of my friend who now needs a hysterectomy, which was already stalled by her tendency to develop blood clots in her legs.
"...and, as many of us, you should try to lose weight and get enough exercise."
Unless Sammy has put on a great deal of weight in the last year or so, one thing she does NOT need to do is lose weight.
Advice like this is one reason to avoid getting internet advice from people who do not know enough to give advice but give advice anyway. Sammy, I will try to get an MD to look at your post. Until you hear from him, or one (or more) of the RNs on the site, please listen to the people who examined you.
A BP of 94/38 could easily be the reason for your fatigue.

Ummmmmmm Tsawb... Sammy is in the critically LOW percentile of UNDERWEIGHT.. as in 85 pounds or so (I might be a few pounds off here) but she is 5'9" or so tall. Losing weight is NOT what we want.
At any rate Sammy, it is extremely common to feel tired after a stroke. Blood pressure has little to do with strokes at times. That is just one causal factor in many. Poor nutrition leads to poor vessel and body health. That leads to weakness and risks for strokes/TIAs.
You are worried about the blood thinners and many other issues. Write all this down. Then write down what other things you are worried about and ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
We can give you cursory information, but the doctor knows YOU and YOUR specific condition, we don't.
I know you have been through a lot, Sammy. I hope you feel better soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sammy, if you are below 8 in your H&H, getting packed Red Cells is a common response. As for the TIA, getting a blood thinner is also a common response to prevent another clot from being formed. Lovenox (if that is the injection they gave you) is often given in the ABD because of the high blood flow and dispersal rate there.
They were addressing the several issues they saw there.
Also, with an H&H of 8, you were anemic which can ALSO make you tired. Not enough Red Blood Cells=Low oxygen carrying capacity=less energy=more tired.

The one thing it does NOT sound like is a blood clot in the leg. There are lots of things going on, and I don't think advice you get here, no matter how well-intentioned, is going to be very useful: it takes someone who's there and who can have some time to get a complete overview. I hope you have a regular physician: going to the ER is fine for acute symptoms, but it sounds like you need someone to attend to many issues over time. I think this forum is ok for information sharing. It's not ok for diagnosing and/or suggesting treatments. In my opinion. I strongly urge you to hook up with physician who can and will care for you over time, and not just via ER visits.

That's a very good suggestion, Sid! People, like me, tend not to overburden their doctors and seek out clinics for nasty bug bites, etc (for an example)-- But I totally hear you, that things like this should be archived in the tomes of one's Doctor to understand the history and recipes of cure for each patient.

Remember, write stuff down.. things you want to ASK the doctor... AND write down what he says about what is going on so that you can remember it later.

Hey Sammy. Wish I could be there with you to be a friend and provide support for you. I can only imagine how scary this episode has been for you but the good news is that it was mild and you were able to get medical attention quickly. I hope you have a strong support group and have someone who can be there to make sure you see a doctor regularily.
Too much information can be just as scary as not enough information so when you go to your doctor visits take a notepad and write down all your questions in advance. Then when you talk to your doctor you will have them in front of you and as he/she answers you can write down the answers. If you don't understand something ask them to explain it in terms that you will understand. Don't let them rush you out the office. And don't let whomever is going with you to see the doctor rush you either. (oops, Sher just gave you the same advice. What can I say, I open a window to post in and then I get busy with work and don't get my responses typed in right away)
It is kinda ironic tho, looking at the page that Sher linked too, you have none of the "common" risk factors for a stroke. Your blood pressure is extremely low which could be linked with your weight. I know that has been a constant battle for you over the years but being underweight does do damage to the body and with your blood pressure so low your brain is not getting the flow of blood it needs. If something good could come out of this episode maybe it will be that you will find the strength to eat a little more and get to a healthier weight. We all care so much for you Sammy and we want you to be healthy. ((((Samantha))))
