Many people have suggested that since our industrial progress and thus our use of insecticides, asbestos, preservatives and other manmade poisons introduced to our land, air and water, that "modern" man created his own plague called cancer. Does any one know how much, if any, truth is contained in this thinking or were people dying from various types of cancer back when pyramids were being built? Has it (cancer) always been around and did we simply give it new and different avenues to travel or could it be considered a comtemporary disease ---a product of our present day environment?

Various kinds of cancer (breast, lung, for example) are on the rise, and it's reasonable to think environmental factors may be involved. However, cancer has been described in many ancient societies, including having been found in mummies, described by Hippocrates, etc. click here for more info

In past times, few people died of cancer. This was because they died of other things first. Modern medicine, hygiene, sanitation and nutrition has prevented most of those early deaths, so heart failure and cancer deaths increase.
