Hi! smile One of my friends is always hungry. She hasn't always been that way..it started pretty recently. She doesn't eat more, but, she is always hungry. She's 21 years old (if that helps). This puzzles both of us, so, I thought
I would get on here and ask. smile Does anyone know what can cause this and what can stop it?
Thank you. smile

has she had any kind of tests done???? It is possible that she may have a tapeworm.....

Since this has started recently, there is likely something behind it besides the urge to eat...

She should seek the advise of a physician

We have thought about the possibility of a tapeworm. I saw a show on Animal Planet about this woman always being hungry, and one day she went to the bathroom and out came a worm. Eek! So, we have thought about that, but, we don't know how she could've possibly eaten something with tapeworm in it. She eats well-cooked food, and she hasn't traveled to any place. (On that show, all the people who had that type of thing had been to a foreign place.) Oh, not ignoring your question: No, she hasn't had any tests done. She's like me...she doesn't have a job with insurance-right now, she has no job, so, it would be so expensive to go to a doctor.
I am going to do some research on tapeworms, though.
Thank you for the reply! smile

P.S.- I forgot to say this in my question post, so, to all that might suggest she's pregnant...she's not. smile

Hyperthyroidism and diabetes can cause increased hunger. Here are a couple of links that might help: http://health.yahoo.com/health/dc/000356/0.html

I'm not a doctor of course (Dr. Sid, where are you?) but I have the same problem, and I believe it is due to a drop in my blood sugar. I just about live on sweets and my pancreas is the size of a bread machine. It puts out enough insulin to keep the entire staff of the Queen Mary off dialysis. Try to eat many small meals a day and see if that helps. Since I am trying to lose weight, I drink a Slim Fast when I get hungry, a couple of times a day. So far I've lost 40 lbs.
