This is embarrassing but must ask. Last year I had bleeding from the rectum and was sent to a specialist and he didn't even examine me. He said I was too young to have any trouble especially seeing it is the first time. I was 29. Well again today it happened. I am a little freaked out by it. It is soooo hard to see a doctor where I live. You have to wait at least 6 weeks unless it is an emergency. Should I be concerned or go to the emergency room?

I'm sure the nurses on this forum will agree: much depends on the color of the blood. Was it red? Then it's a low bleed and probably only means a small tear somewhere, from straining at stool, likely. Was it black? That means bleeding higher up and should be checked out. Get another doctor and tell him you're 53.

No the blood is red. Do you still suggest I see a doctor though? Or don't worry about it. You definately put my mind at ease. Thanks for answering.

Do you have a problem with constipation? I mean, are your stools very hard and difficult to pass? At times small splits in the rectum can occur which will then bleed.

Do you have pain when you bleed? What type of bleeding is it? I mean is it like smears of blood or is there frank blood coloring the water when you pass stools?

Sometimes people bleed from Hemorrhoids when harder stools pass by them.

At 29 it is uncommon to see serious problems with their GI. My suggestion is to keep track of what the blood looks like (how much, appearance, etc) and what kind of bowel movement it was (hardness, consistancey), was the blood mixed IN the stool or was it around and BY the stool? That kind of thing.

There is a fair amount of blood. It is enough to color water in bowl. Guessing I would have to say min of 1 teaspoon. The last time this happened it lasted I believe for 3-4 days. Really have not noticed any constipation and do not have hemeroids

Did you have to strain hard to pass your stool?

I'm not a nurse or doctor, but I think you need a second opinion. Go to another doctor. If you are passing blood, something is wrong. Even if it's minor, you need to know what's wrong.
