I couldn't really find a better forum for this, so here it goes:
I went to a concert with a friend of mine a few days ago. We were very close to very loud noise for a couple hours, and of course afterwards our ears were ringing for a while. I was just wondering if anybody knows why your ears ring loud noise. It's more an intellectual interest than anything. I tried searching only for actual causes, but all I could find was a plethora of sites, which all seemed to copy there information word for word from each other, about how it is unhealthy and you should avoid it at all costs. I just want to know what causes the ringing.

"What?" is not clear, but in general terms it would seem likely that the ear-ringing results from some level of trauma to the inner ear, where the hair cells respond to sound by producing nerve signals which travel to auditory area of the brain.

Here's a little info.
