You are expecting correct? So before following any advice regarding over the counter anti-inflammatories best to check with your doctor. I would have suggested using this lotion called IcyHot but again, you might want to check with your doctor.

In the meantime, heat is the first thing you want to apply. It will provide temporary relief in inflammatory conditions such as sprains, strains, fibromyalgia, muscle spasm, whiplash, arthritis, neuralgias, etc. Heat will increase the blood flow and decrease joint stiffness, pain, and muscle spasms as well as resolve inflammation and edema. The method of heat applied can be via heat lamps, hot packs, paraffin bath (melted wax) or even hydrotherapy (hot tub).

If heat does not work for you then try cold. Cold is basically more useful for treatment of acute pain. Also having someone massage the inflammed areas might be beneficial.

And if your really want an alternative method, some might suggest accupuncture!

Hope this has helped you some. Feel better.
