Do men have periodic shifts in libido, highs and lows that come on a regular period basis?

Say one month he thinks about sex more often and finds more people attractive in a sexual way then the next month a drop dead gorgeous sex icon does absolutely nothing for him and sex doesn't cross his mind for weeks.

On his 'up' time High libido phase everything seems to contain a double meaning, on his 'down' or low libido phase even the most blatant of phrases are taking innocently with no connection being made to sex.

Now I am not talking sporadic intervals caused by depression and other "seasonal" things, I mean clock work on a time schedule every 40 to 50 days up and down, up and down, regular like a woman's scheduled monthlies but not as often.

I'm not talking about the ability to perform either - still able but just not interested.

I'm not even certain if libido is the right word - Sex drive? Interest? I don't know.

Anyway (if I made any sense here) is this typical male behavior or is this a sign of something going on that needs a professionals attention? Or (Lord Forbid) is this a sign of old age?

I've had moments where I just haven't been aroused in weeks. I can't tell if there's a pattern. If a drop dead gorgeous hottie did something arousing in front of me during that 'off time,' I think I would most likely feel the 'off time' ending though. Usually anyway. So are you saying that if some hunk did that, you wouldn't get aroused? Would you say you are particuarly focused on anything during your low period? Well, that's all I've got; just some experience. Hopefull someone else can give you the health side.

Well, I have no idea about a guy's sex drive, but I know that my husband has times where he is all over me constantly, and other times when he doesn't seem interested at all.

But maybe it has to do with the company he keeps? (me... Wink )

Actually you both appear to be reporting similar thing - a high and low on the chart not one clear level line.

I'll wait for Sid to reply or one of those other Medical Professionals who have a clinical take on all of that kind of stuff.

Sometimes individuals of either gender, especially those often thought of (or worse, handled) by others as hunks or sex objects, just want to be thought of (never mind handled) for other aspects of themselves, aspects which they deem to be more important at the time. Additionally, there may be an outside distraction: for example, we have all heard that an individual may, at times, want to just cuddle up with a good book.
