I have had a bad headache for about a month now ..i have alot of allergies and all but nothing i take is working really. Its behind my eyes and my forehead and my ears hurt some too. I figured a sinus headache but you would think my allergy meds would be helping me on that one. My head hurts to touch it alot of the times. I have asthma but, its not acting up at the moment anyway and im not really coughing or anything so do you think its still sinus? Thanks

Here is a sure fired method to find out if it's a sinus headache. Put your head between your knees. Then lift your head back up to normal position. Does the headache pain stay the same? Or does it suddenly becomes an intense throbbing? If the pain changes as your head moves it's a sinus headache. When I have a full blown throbbing sinus headache I will either take extra strength Sinu-tab or maximum strength Excedrine.

But Samantham you know it very well could be a stress headache. I can only imagine the emotions that have been going through you lately and all that will certainly bring on a stress head-ache. And of course improper nutrition can cause head-aches. Lot's of factors can cause a headache and different medicines are more effective on specific types of headaches. But the 2 I mentioned seem to work the best for me. Just make sure your health situation and prescriptions (if you are taking any) allow you to use those medications.

Are you certain it is just blocked up sinuses or do you actually have a sinus infection?

Sinus medications (antihistamines/decongestants) will dry out and cause your sinuses to drain - however they will not effectively take care of a sinus infection which has many of the same symptoms as congestion. In fact congested sinuses regularly become sinus infections. Which can lead to infections of the inner ear, the tear ducts and other places - mind all of the holes in your hear (nose, mouth, ears, eyes) are inter connected with passages - one gets clogged/infected the rest can as well.

After this long of time I would strongly urge you to go to a doctor to get prescription strength medications to deal with the problem - and to also get a better diagnoses so if you do have infection you can be put on antibiotics to treat and kill out the infection and save yourself from long term damage.

Good idea to see the ENT. Always have to R/O that rare but deadly Cerebral Aneurysm as an etiology of constant headaches.

Thanks everyone guess my blood count is really low so had to get blood and i guess the way they talked that can be causing alot of it too...

What are you doing getting blood. Are you bleeding?
What is your H&H?
What is your serum iron?
What is your reticulocyte count?
Is this a microcytic hypochromic anemia?
Give us normal values with these results as different labs report differently.

Scapel I have fibroids and my count was 7.8 or so anyhow, i guess im going to have to go with surgery to get rid of these now..

Sammy - don't get scared at the idea of surgery. It's not that bad at all and you can e-mail me or look me up on Yahoo and we can chat more about it. If you have to go that route it will be alright!

Fibroids can be removed leaving the other working parts in tact. But if your surgery requires something more radical just know that it will make you a healthier person in the long run and being able to have children should never be what defines you as a woman. Sammy - you have a lot to offer and you can offer to adopted children just as well as you can offer to your own biological children. Course if I'm blowing smoke out my .... I'm sure someone will call me on it. I'm probably not the best person to give advice about children seeing as how having children were never one of my priorities. But you are a friend so I'm trying to give you the support a friend would give ya!

Being able to have children is not what defines a person, you in this case, as a valuable and viable person as Georgia so eloquently stated. I know you have long discussed the probability that you did not want to have children because of your diagnoses. That, too, is a choice only you can make.

But I know of many women who did have children after surgery such as this as well as other more significant disease such as cancer in the uterus who DID go on and have healthy children.

I just feel your own health is much more important and you are worth worrying about.

My daughter had the surgery to remove the fibroids and then got pregnant and had C-section --She has 5 children now with a set of twins. She really bled quite a lot and dropped her HGM down to 6.5. It is amazing to me how they can function that low. She said she felt tired. I guess so. I think what happens is the patient develops a chronic anemia and just kind of adapts and is able to tolerate this low of a HGB. Acute blood loss getting that low would not be tolerated that well.
There is a drug they treat fibroids with also that she took, I can't remember the name, but Georgia probably knows. She may have taken it post op to prevent recurrence of the fibroid. Be sure and express to your GYN that you would like to have kids. Always worth a second opinion. I always encouraged my patients to get a second opinion, because I wanted them to be convinced that the treatment recommended was the best. They seemed to do better when doubt had been removed.

Thank you scapel for giving me that hope...i dont even know for sure if i want children yet and all but, i would like to be able to make that choice myself...and btw five kids?? WOW must keep her busy!

They're called gonadtropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH agonist) and the brand names are Lupron, Zoladex, and Synarel. Usually fibroids can shrink to half their size after a few months of treatment. But fyi Scalpel, I never took these drugs - I didn't have fibroids. My surgery was for adenomyosis. Different diagnosis but the surgery would have been the same - that's why I have experience in what to expect from the surgery.
