Received an e-mail from a friend of mine stating that she was diagnosed with borderline diabetes, questioning if there was any such thing. Websites do not all agree on the lowest glucose level that is considered diabetic: 200, 190, or 125. There is quite a jump between 125 and 190.
Is there such a condition as borderline diabetes? If so, what glucose level would be considered as such? Should she be cnsidering the diabetic diet? Which website(s) have reliable information on this topic?
I wish people in the health profession would avoid the term "borderline diabetes" That term does more harm then good. Most people hear that and they cruise on into Denial. Blood sugar counts can be deceptive, but if they start talking diabetes its trouble from here.
As one doctor said to me" being borderline diabetic is like being borderline pregnant, only difference is that you'll take a little longer before you show"
I have yet to talk to anyone who was given the verdict of "borderline diabetes" who hasn't developed full blown Type 2

Sorka, The reason for the term is this: Some people DO come to terms with the situation and lose weight and do what it takes to prevent needing medications to manage their glucose levels.
The term is not intended to allow people to delude themselves longer, but to help them realize they are walking an inexorable path to disaster without further, drastic, intervention.
