Well, if he's otherwise healthy, you could cut the pureed carrots from his diet and see what happens. At that age, he won't become malnourished if his diet is otherwise normal, even if he's on only breast milk.
Of course if he is not otherwise healthy, you should get a second qualified opinion. Your doctor shouldn't mind your asking. After all, it's your baby.
(Other sources: eggs, oranges,rutabagas, squash, beans, spinach & turnips. But since carrots are a common prepared baby food, the carotenemia is likely caused by that.)
It takes a few weeks for the surplus carotene to be excreted, and the skin to become normal in color.

My oldest son had a feeding disorder and all he would eat for nearly 2 years straight was Beech Nut Spaghetti with meat sauce and Strawberry Yogurt. The main ingredient in the Spaghetti was Carrots. He also looked jaundiced, but he was not after having the doctor check him out.
Change his diet. Maybe that will help.
