Hi. I had a tubal ligation (burned) on Friday 8/5. Everything with the actual operation site is ok, except for some bruising, which is expected. My question is why the hell is my tongue feeling swollen and painful!? It's not to the "I can't breathe" point, more like "I burned myself with a hot piece of Pizza" feeling. Anyone ever experience this after any kind of operation which required a breathing tube inserted during the operation to assist in keeping the airway open? I'm suspecting irritation, but was wondering if anyone else had any opinions. Thanks.

Well, yes thats called when they intubate you for surgery and it can cause some problems. It should go away in a day or so. The tube inserted does cause at times some swelling and irritation. Sometimes maybe putting some ice in your mouth would help sooth it.

I assume you meant 9/5, instead of 8/5. If it really was just a few days ago, it most likely relates to mechanical irritation of the tongue. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of manipulation to get the tongue out of the way to slip the tube past it. So give it a little time. If it's getting worse -- or if it really was a month ago instead of a couple of days ago -- you should inform your doctor.
