Unfortunately each person has a different experience in recovering from the use of a PEG tube. My Step Father had no problems at all, it closed with minimal difficulties.
If you are concerned about the care you are recieving, why not ask your GP for a referral to a new gastroenterologist for a second opinion?
Each of those techniques are viable. Ask your surgeon for a very detailed explanation of what each IS, how it works, how well the recovery from each usually is and how long it takes.
At this point, information is what you lack, and your surgeon is the best source for that.
Meanwhile, eat as much protein as you can (think "building blocks" of the body), drink fluids and do NOT skip or stop the antibiotics.
