I am getting a HUGE fever sore on my lip just in time for the weekend -- you know that awful tingly sensation -- does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of the fever blister quickly and without the big, horribly ugly scab that forms and makes one look like a blackberry is stuck to one's lips???
HELP!!

Well, the key is stop the outbreak before hand - that's why when you feel the tingling sensation you have half a chance to slow down or stop it. The prescriptive drug Valtrex, originally formulated to stop genital herpes out-breaks, is also used by many dermatologist to stop cold and canker sore outbreaks.
Also, the O.T.C. ointment Zylactin is great at providing a protective covering for the sore to help with a speedy healing.
Good luck - and don't stress about it. Because as I'm sure you know, stress and worry will bring on a fever blister rather quickly!

I would do what Georgia suggested. You might talk to you pharmcy and see what is available over the counter. Or call your doctors office and talk to the nurse they might be able to call something in to stop it in it tracks.
Avoid foods like chocolate, coffee (caffiene is baaad here). I think it's L-Lysine that is recommended for helping here as well. Try to avoid stress and don't pick at the sore because you may inadvertently transfer it elsewhere. Take care.
