My husbands twenty-six year old niece has been going to the doctor getting test done to she why she keeps have miscarriages, while all the test are not back yet she did get a call from the doctors office confirming that she tested positive for lupus there was a name at the end that I forgot but I believe it has something to do with her blood. Has anyone heard of this? Is it life threatening? And where can I get some information on this? Thanks in advance Beth

Is it a form or anemia that is often associated with Lupus? It's hard to comment without knowing what it was called. There is a type of anemia (Hemolytic) that can be associated with Lupus (or other autoimmune disorders).

Often, the first sign/symptom of Lupus show in bloodwork.

Here is some info that discusses blood disorders and Lupus/SLE. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Do a search on this page with the word "pregnancy" and you will find a couple of things that may be what the doctor is referring to. It does mention miscarriages (although don't search for that word specifically...it's not there).

I'm not familiar with every kind of Lupus, but Lupus can be life threatening. It might depends on how soon you get treated for it, but I know 2 women that died from Lupus. I'm sure there's good info in Lydia's link. Sure hope your husband's niece get treated without any complications.

Beth, one of the women was in her mid twenties, and the older one was around 50. The younger one started noticing something like a ring around her nose. I don't know how this is related, but it was. The older woman had actually died before I found out that she died from Lupus.

lupus can also be associated with rhumatoid arthritis. (in some people, they develop both.)
get her to have tests done to see if she has r.a. as well.
