Saturday, I woke up with hives on my legs, and as the day went on they covered my entire body, face and all, and they were horribly itchy and hot. It went on like this for two days with Benedryl being my only kind of relief, and on Monday morning I saw my doctor who prescribed Allegra and a predisone pack.

They faded and stopped itching until that night, when they came back even WORSE all over my body and face. Tuesday they slightly faded and Tuesday night they were horrible, and this morning my legs had it bad and now I'm paranoid that they'll come back.

I can't think of anything unsual that I may have eaten - I haven't eaten out in a while and I'm a picky eater so there isn't much. I had cheddar cheese for the first time in a while so I stopped eating that yesterday but they still came back.

Right now I'm on Toprol XL, Tramadol ER and regular Tramadol, and percocet not more than once a day for severe headaches. I've been on all of these for almost a year. So I'm wondering, is it possible to suddenly have an allergic reaction to a medication you've been taking for a long time?

Thanks!

You can always become sensitive to an agent over time (that is why one is always instructed to do a patch test when using hair dyes)and when your immune system is weakened you often react to the allergen more.

Hives is an allergic side affect of Toprol XL and Tramadol. You should see the doctor that prescribed those medicines to you and tell him/her that you have developed a sudden allergic reaction and ask what should be done.

Or...on the other hand, this could be nothing more than dermatitis as a result to changing your soap or laundry detergent.
