I don't really know where to post this but here it goes...

Does anyone have any left over birth control pills? I really want to get some for my plants. Yes, for my plants. I don't want to ask a doctor.

Does anyone know where I can get any? Roll Eyes

I wonder if any of the OTC hormone-replacement medications would work? Do you know what ingredient is supposed to make it a good fertilizer?

Giz, someone else suggested the same thing.... and I THINK that it's estrogen that's the active ingredient.

The Active ingredient is the estrogen.

However they are also discovering that "flushed" estrogen is also changing the gender of local populations of fish - meaning that the estrogen levels in the waste water is making it through the filtration system and is having affect on fish:

So if you are going to use this pill for plants I hope its indoor, potted variety where the estrogen soaked soil will not be leeching into the water supply.

That's very interesting David.

I plan on using the BC pills on tropical potted plants... so, no worries.

I have to think your doctor probably wouldn’t give you the pills for that purpose anyway. But you may want to ask what they would recommend. If there is an OTC estrogen medication, your doctor might have a good suggestion -or the pharmacist. If you’re embarrassed, you could go to a store you never go to. :-) Or, you could buy on-line, like from www.drugstore.com or some similar place.

Best thing to do is make friends with a pharmacist. My neighbor knew one and got all the expired birth control packages from her. She kept me stocked in them. They really do work - 1 tablet disolved in a litre of water seems to do the trick.

I am taking a soy protein powder, and it is estrogenic- maybe that would be suitable.
